Protect Lake Massawippi, Together

What is Blue Massawippi?

We engage the community and take concrete, science-backed action to safeguard Lake Massawippi and its watershed.

Our Work in Action

  • Applied Science

Measuring, understanding, and monitoring the lake's health.

  • On-the-Ground Action

Reducing human impact on the lake through realistic, measurable initiatives.

  • Community Engagement

Uniting the lake community around a shared goal.

Current Projects

  • The Northern Brook Lamprey is a vulnerable species in the Tomifobia River. This initial phase focuses on habitat characterization: mapping the species' presence to accurately target future areas for revegetation and develop a strategic action plan.

  • During heavy rainfall, runoff from hard surfaces carries sediments and pollutants into the lake. This project helps citizens create rain gardens—natural infrastructure that filters water at the source, reduces erosion, and actively protects the watershed's water quality.

  • This annual summer sampling program accurately measures the lake's physicochemical parameters (phosphorus, pH, transparency, etc.). This rigorous data allows us to monitor water quality, establish long-term trophic trends, and guide environmental protection decisions.
